- Clergy Appreciation Month
Virginia District Family, You know the power of affirmation and appreciation and for that reason we set aside time in October for every local church to express appreciation and affirmation for Senior Pastors and staff clergy. The month of October is Clergy Appreciation Month. Churches worldwide will show their appreciation for clergy and pastoral staff members through a gift, a note of encouragement, or other method. Every member of the clergy here on our Virginia District has responded to the call of God. Each serves with gifts, passion and determination for the Kingdom of God. I’ve discovered that financial gifts (such as love offerings, gift cards, trips, etc.) have great meaning to pastors. So I encourage you to encourage a measure of generosity toward the Pastor and their family. I have also learned that words of affirmation speak loudly, too. Years ago, a local church I pastored, presented me with a beautiful 3-ring binder of personal notes written by members and friends of the local church speaking into my life about the impact of my ministry into their lives. Those words of affirmation mean much to me still. Can I count on you? Will you personally take initiative to see that your church recognizes your pastor and staff. Recruit helpers as needed to the task. As a friend of mine says, “Teamwork makes the dream work!” RESOURCES: 1. VA District Delegate Handbook - - Page #E-21 "Pastoral Appreciation" Appreciation Month: We recommend that the church plan and carry out special appreciation activities for pastors and their families in October or other suitable month each year. Christmas Bonus: We recommend that the church plan for and present an additional week’s pay (at minimum) as a Christmas bonus to ministers.
